Practical clinical support
for employers managing absence.
Return Well was founded to support employers managing complex absence with clearer, more practical clinical input, particularly where mental health is a factor.
Meet the founder
Alexandra Mesecke — Founder of Return Well

I created Return Well because I have seen, from both sides, how difficult returning to work after absence can be.
Before starting Return Well, I spent over 10 years working across HR, business development and operational roles. In HR, I saw how often employers are trying to do the right thing, but do not always have the right guidance at the right time. Sickness absence, mental health concerns and complex returns can be hard to manage, especially when there is uncertainty around what is reasonable, what is supportive, and what is practically possible for the business.
I also understand that employers are often under pressure to make decisions quickly, fairly and consistently. Many smaller organisations do not have in-house occupational health support, and even when support is available, it can sometimes feel slow, formal or difficult to access. Return Well was created to offer a more straightforward route to clear, work-focused recommendations when employers need timely guidance.
Behind every absence is a person, often dealing with something deeply difficult, and the way support is handled can make a real difference to someone's confidence, dignity and recovery.
Alongside my HR experience, I also qualified as an Independent Mental Health Advocate and worked in forensic mental health settings, as well as supporting people in care homes as a Relevant Person's Representative. That work gave me a very different perspective on the human side of absence.
Return Well was built from that combination of experience. I wanted to create something that sits between the needs of the employer and the needs of the employee — something practical, fast and efficient, but also human and thoughtful.
Return Well connects organisations with experienced, registered clinicians, including Occupational Therapists and Psychologists, to provide structured return-to-work assessments and clear workplace recommendations. Every assessment is carried out by an appropriately registered professional, so employers can feel confident that the advice is grounded, balanced and clinically informed.
We are not here to replace good HR practice or medical care. We are here to provide practical, independent guidance that helps bridge the space between health, work and day-to-day business decisions.
For me, Return Well is not about turning people into a process. It is about helping employers make confident decisions while keeping care, communication and common sense at the heart of the return-to-work journey.

Our mission
Clinical clarity for return-to-work decisions
Return Well was founded by Alexandra Mesecke, who brings over a decade of experience across HR and the care sector. The platform is shaped by a practical understanding of the challenges employers face in managing absence and supporting employees back to work — balancing staff wellbeing, operational pressures, and the need to make timely, well-informed decisions in often high-pressure environments.
In many organisations, access to structured, practical guidance on return to work is limited. This can lead to uncertainty, delays, and inconsistent outcomes. Return Well was developed to provide a more straightforward and responsive approach, connecting employers with a network of qualified UK clinicians who deliver timely, effective support.
We work with care homes, employers, and HR teams across the full spectrum of return-to-work scenarios — mental health, MSK, long-term sickness, occupational health, workplace adjustments and phased return. Our focus is on functional assessment and practical recommendations, rather than lengthy or theoretical reports.
Every clinician verified with their UK regulator (HCPC, NMC or equivalent)
Report delivery after assessment, assessments within 2–3 days
Every case action logged and defensible
Remote coverage across England, Wales and Scotland
Our values
What guides how we work
People, not just cases
We design Return Well around the people involved — the employee navigating a difficult time, the manager making decisions, and the clinician delivering the assessment. Every case is handled with this in mind.
Clinical integrity
We do not compromise on clinical standards. Every clinician is verified with their UK regulator, and every assessment follows a structured, evidence-based approach.
Timely, not rushed
Delays can make outcomes worse. We prioritise prompt access to assessment while maintaining the quality and consistency of clinical input.
Clarity and transparency
Everyone involved knows what to expect. Employers can track progress, employees understand the process, and clinicians work from clear, structured information.
Practical outcomes
Our focus is on recommendations that can be applied in real-world settings — clear, proportionate, and useful in practice.
